Couple of months ago I brought some #Basil for preparing pasta. Some shoots were available hence planted in a small planter in window. Quite surprisingly it survived and bloomed.

Basil belongs to #Lamiaceae Family or #Mint Family. Although Basil is native of Eastern countries like #India and #Thiland it is very popular in western countries and is mainly associated with Italian cuisine.

Few days ago, when I was riding around Pune I saw a tall tree around the corner. The tree was as tall as a two storey building and it had reached to the level of the road. It was full of white flowers.

Thankfully the flowers were accessible on the other side of the turn.

This tree is native of Indian subcontinent and is exploited for cheap timber because it grows fast.

These days I have started feeling Spring has more blossoms than monsoons. Many colourfulflowers, orchids and what not! A trail in nature during this time is very rewarding.
So here's one more flower from Mother Earth's kitty: Anjani or Ironwood.
Why Ironwood? because the barks are real strong, often used construction and boat building. It is also believed that the wood was used as fuel for production of Wootz Steel, hence the name Ironwood came in to the play.
This is native of Peninsular India. The flowers bloom around mid January to Mid March. Although the flowers are of bluish Purplish colour are in cluster.
The leaves are also known to have certain medicinal properties. They generate a dye of Yellow colour which was used for dying robes of Buddhist monks.

The bark is very fragrant  and powder is traditionally used for skin ailments such as acne.
